462nd Anniversary of Semarang
Saturday May 2, 2009 was the 462nd Anniversary of Semarang City. The name of the city, Semarang, may have been originated from the acronym of the javanese words “asem” (tamarind) and “arang” (rare). The city is a melting pot of Javanese, Chinese, Indian and Arabian cultures.
Tugu Muda is the most famous Semarang’s landmarks. It is located on westward of Simpang Lima, the downtown. Tugu muda is now embellished with fountain that shoots water up to 30 m.
